Meet Reed

Upbringing

After nearly twenty years of growing up in Homer, New York, Reed is fortunate to have experienced the best that Cortland County has to offer to its young people- summer baseball, Cub Scouts, martial arts, and theater, just to name a few.

Reed's first exposure to politics occurred in high school, when the Homer American Legion Post 465 nominated him, then a junior, to attend the prestigious New York Boys' State program in 2017. In his senior year, he gained early hands-on experience in local government by interning in the Clerk of the County Legislature's Office and working part-time in the City of Cortland Mayor's Office. At the selection of the Cortland County League of Women Voters, he attended the distinguished "Students Inside Albany" program in Spring 2018, an immersive experience for high school students in the heart of New York State government.

Reed earned his Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) at Colgate University, graduating summa cum laude with Honors Distinction in Political Science and Theater. He looks forward to pursuing a Masters' in Public Administration (M.P.A.) at Syracuse University's Maxwell School for Citizenship and Public Affairs, starting in Summer 2025.

Community Involvement

Outside of college, Reed has been an active and engaged young citizen in the Homer community. He is a Substitute Teacher for several Cortland County school districts and the Program Director of Homer High School's Shakespearean & Thespian Society. He is the Co-Chair of the Cortland County Youth Board, volunteers with the Cortland County League of Women Voters, and tutors students for the SAT with CNY Tutoring. In moments of spare time, he enjoys performing with the Center Players Community Theater troupe, training at Crown Fitness, or enjoying walks around the village with Gia and Phoebe.
